Festival / Conventions: Gatherings of like-minded individuals brought together to celebrate a given artform or genre, notably here: immersive theater and horror.
Festivals and conventions are not experiences themselves; but rather, they most often contain numerous experiences within them. The most popular of these are the various Fringe Festivals found across the world that celebrate theater (e.g., Hollywood Fringe Festival); Midsummer Scream, which brings together horror vendors, haunted houses, and immersive horror experiences to tease the upcoming season; and The Overlook Film Festival, which honors horror storytelling in all artforms, notably hosting numerous immersive horror experiences and a weekend-long immersive alternate reality experience. These conventions / festivals are great opportunities for guests to try new companies or experiences with minimal monetary investment – and to experience numerous smaller experiences within a short time frame.
Browse the company guide below to find conventions and festivals that might interest you. Scroll to the bottom to find our intensity guide.
We don’t currently list conventions and festivals in our intensity guide because most conventions are aimed at general audiences or billed as family-friendly. The experiences within those conventions may range from lighthearted, fun immersives to extreme haunts, so we urge patrons and participants to research the various companies at each convention in our intensity guide to ensure you have the right expectations. However, for those looking to try something more intense, conventions are a wonderful opportunity to do so as they are much shorter in duration than a full experience.
