Thrones! The Musical! A Parody of Game of Thrones.

Royal Mile Entertainment, Produced by Emily Dorezas and Al Samuels

Set in the famous Hudson Theater in Hollywood, Thrones! is a wacky, Saturday-night gem of a show. The production is minimalistic, creative, and heartfelt. While the stage is mainly a blank canvas, the show rests on the strength of its acting, intimacy, and humor. By ditching the elaborateness of big stage craft and amplifying the intimate atmosphere, the message is clear: Thrones! is by fans, for fans.

"Thrones!

The narrative focuses on a group of six friends in their living room. One friend, down and out, needs some cheering up–and what better way to cheer her up than watching the single best show in television history: Game of Thrones. Her caring and compassionate friends take on the daunting task of catching her up on the plot–whether she likes it or not.

Raunchy, slapstick, and equipped with only obscene fanaticism and household props, Thrones! takes the audience on a wild, dirty adventure through Westeros. The music is impressively varied: ranging from musical exposition, a hip-hop rendition of “The Red Wedding,” ballads, a soulful solo of “Hold the door,” and plucky duets like“Its torture when I’m not torturing.” Further, the cast are an incredibly talented, entertaining bunch of individuals. Witty lyrics, clever costume changes, and well-delivered dick jokes make Thrones! hilarious from start to finish.

"Thrones!

Energy is key to this production. The pacing is energetic; the jokes, edgy; and the timing, perfect. Staged like a variety show, there is no loss of momentum in-between songs. The cast periodically returns to the increasingly disgusted friend in her living room. Undeterred, her compatriots continue to justify the ultra-violence and genital mutilation that is constantly present in their favorite HBO show. And we laugh the entire time, through the shame, violence, and incest.

Birthed from an appreciation and love of Game of Thrones, this experience is a true labor of love. The production team shares their joy of this fandom and the confidence in their humor, deliciously. Thrones! The Musical is a hilarious gift to us, book readers and show watchers alike. Its Los Angeles show is ending May 21st, but fret not, they’ll be back with an updated show in the fall once the new season airs.
